About CompTIA Security+ Certification

The certification is awarded by CompTIA after successful completion of the SY0–501 exam. There are no pre-requisites for writing the exam, though it is recommended that you have at least one year of practice in administering network security in an organization.

If you don’t have the required experience, then you will not be eligible for the certification test because, without proper practical knowledge, it would be very difficult for you to pass the exam. The SY0–501 certification test is made of up of six different domains, and each domain makes up a certain percentage of the exam, such as follows:

  • Threats, Attacks, and Vulnerabilities 21%
  • Technologies and Tools 22%
  • Architecture and Design 15%
  • Identity and Access Management 16%
  • Risk Management 14%
